I've been taking prednisone for quite a while now, and I reciently began hormone replacement therapy to combat a severe osteoporosus. I'm taking the steroid testosterone as the hormone since it is lacking in me for some unknown reason.

Side effects aside from my eye sight going ka-put, i've got some spots developing on my skin. They are almost undescernable, but my wife sees them and one is really large on my leg... about the size of a nickle. It is slightly raised and feels scaley. I think it's color is a redish brown (not blood)... and it itches somewhat at times then kind of burns at other times. my dermatologist looked at it and said it was a benign karatonitis (I think)...any way that is a side effect I believe. Anopther effect is weight...I've packed on at least 40 pounds in the past 4 months... This sucks!...my clothes don't want to fit anymore and I look like crap!

My face is rounded and I have this padding of fat across my shoulders that is unbecoming.

I am not sleeping regularly, with a 'normal' pattern. For instance, I didn't sleep at all last night. Some nights I'll sleep but will wake almost every hour... and dream... let me tell you I dream like never before. Maybe as a result of the stress I'm feeling concerning my health. Pardon my typing if I do some typo's......

That's about it for now. I keep in mind that no matter how bad things seem to get, they could always be worse.

I found this link from your post RxList website, I know it is an old post (I could not reply to that one for some reason), but here is my story:

Several years ago I was prescribed sterrapred 12 day dose pack for mysterious dizzy spells that were followed by migraines. I noticed a marked difference in my vision near the end of my regimen. When I contacted the doctor's office, I think they thought I was not serious and did not return my phone call. When I called back and assured them I was serious, as I could not see across the room, and driving was very scary as I could not even see the car in front of me with any kind of clarity. I was told it was a rare side effect that was not mentioned because it was so rare. After quitting the treatment, I gradually got my site back, but have felt that it never returned to its original vision.

A few years of dealing with this inconvenience, I found an ey doctor who told me I had some condition where the gel in my eye was turning to liquid. He assured me that only 2% of the population that have this particular problem ever get any worse. Since then I have light flares that on three occasions have presented. This is a sign of retinal detachment, I do not know who to turn to either. I had told my eye doctor about the episode with the sterrapred, but he on one occasion gave me eye drops that contained steroids in them. Once again I noticed a marked difference in my vision.

What brought me to look for other incidents is that today, I got a sacroiliac joint injection. Even though I had written down that I was allergic to steroids. The doctor had explained it as "sticking me with a pen and injecting some medicine". Once I realized it was a steroid injection, I started to look into possible side effects. I cannot find blindness anywhere, but I know that is what has caused my blurred vision on two occasions in the past.

I was wondering if your sight had returned. My brother has recently began taking predizone and has also went blind.

Well, I took prednisone on 3 different occasions. The first 2 times I took myself off the drug and my vision came back.

The 3rd time, however I stayed on the drug because my doctors said it was going to help my other medical conditions. My sight has not returned, and I've been off the drug for more than a couple years.

The kind of changes in my eye were that my retinas had been pushed off my eye depriving them of blood/oxygen flow and they scarred. One of my eye doctors said it looked like a pseudo tumor eye deformity where the profile of my eyeball looks like a bell curve on end. It looked as if pressure was forcing fluid into my eye and the increased pressure is what detached the retina... especially the macula portion that is used in reading and other pinpoint vision functions.

The initial symptoms I observed though were difficulty adjusting to changes in lighting. On sunny days, I would walk into the house and be almost completely blind because my eyes would take hours adjusting to the dimmer conditions.

I hope your brother's condition gets better.

Feel free to stop and read any other categories you wish... I'm glad to have you posting here!

:)
